Summer Activities in Colorado
Now that Memorial Day is over, it’s time to start planning some summer fun! The only downside of this season is that summer always seems to pass by in the blink of an eye. Make this summer your best yet by planning lots of adventures in advance so you don’t let the time slip by! Lucky for you, we’ve put together a list of fun summer activities and trip ideas in Colorado. Get out your calendar and let’s start planning!
1. Go camping
There’s no better way to get in touch with the nature in Colorado than by sleeping amongst it. Whether you prefer to have the comforts of running water and fire pits in a campground or you crave solitude in the backcountry, Colorado has an incredible amount of camping options. Pack your sleeping bag and a camera, and get ready for a weekend to remember!
2. Try mountain biking
Much more than just a way to get around, mountain biking is a superb way to explore our stunning state. There are plenty of trails suited for all levels – from those just starting out, to experts looking to push their limits. No matter your level, just be sure to wear a helmet!
3. Play high altitude golf
Did you know that playing golf at high altitude can actually improve your game? That’s right, a high altitude means the air is thin and dry, creating the optimal conditions for your ball to soar far and straight. And the views of the Rocky Mountains aren’t bad either!
4. Experience whitewater
Getting out on the water is a great way to spend your summer days. With headwaters of four major rivers beginning in Colorado, our state has some of the best whitewater opportunities in the country. Hop in a raft with a group for a day you’ll remember! The best part is that it requires little skill, and you can share the experience with friends or family. For more of an adventure, try whitewater kayaking, which requires more skill and allows you to be completely in control of your vessel.
5. Horseback riding
Colorado is one of the best places in the United States to saddle up! From overnight trips to short guided tours, the equestrian adventure opportunities are endless. For a seriously awesome time, plan a getaway to a dude ranch where you’ll be able to have tailored riding instruction, delicious food and a real “cowboy experience”!
6. Explore underground
On a hot summers’ day when the sun is beating down, there’s no better way to beat the heat than by going underground. Colorado is home to two of the nation’s most popular natural caves, Glenwood Caverns and Cave of the Winds. Observe the otherworldly rock formations and explore the twisting paths that wind throughout this unique place. Be sure to bring a headlamp!
7. Go winery hopping
That’s right – you don’t have to travel to California to sip some great wine! Amid orchards of fruit trees and rows of grapevines, you can find some seriously charming wineries in Colorado’s wine country.
8. See an outdoor concert
Every Coloradan should add seeing a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater to their bucket list. Not far from Denver, this natural amphitheater is one of the best spots in the state – and maybe even the country – to watch live music.
9. Play your favorite games
Whether it’s a rainy day or a weekend getaway destination, making it to Black Hawk Lady Luck® should definitely be on your summer bucket list! With more than 500 of the latest and greatest slots to live action poker, you’ll be sure to find a game that is your favorite. All that fun will surely work up an appetite, so make your way over to Otis & Henry’s® bar and grill for some tasty food to satisfy your cravings.
