Have Fun This Fall!
Fall in Colorado is beautiful, and Black Hawk is Colorado’s original destination for gaming, excitement and adventure! From biking and hiking nearby trails, camping, or simply taking a scenic drive to check out the colors of the season, Black Hawk is the perfect fall getaway. Here are a few ideas to kick off your adventure:
Take a walk: Take a self-guided walking tour to discover Black Hawk’s storied past. In 1850, the Gold Rush of Colorado started, and just like other mining towns, brothels, saloons and gaming halls were a huge part of history. Set against the breathtaking scenic background of the Rocky Mountains, today the town is home to a mix of modern-day living and authentic gold-mining history.
Hike or bike: During the cool fall season, biking or hiking a nearby mountain trail is one of the best ways to explore the beauty of Colorado’s landscape. Black Hawk is minutes from Golden Gate Canyon State Park and dozens of trail heads, including Burro Loop Trail, Black Hawk Peak, James Peak Lake Trail, St. Mary's Glacier, and Warren Gulch Trail.
Go Camping: Add a little variety on your next trip to Black Hawk by "roughing it" at one of the many nearby scenic campgrounds. Try out Reverend’s Ridge Campground, Whispering Pines KOA®, The Kelly Dahl Campground or the Columbine Campground. Camping is the perfect way to relax for a few days, spend some time outdoors, and get back in touch with nature.
Take a scenic drive: Colorado is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the states, especially in the mountains around Black Hawk. Take in some scenery from the comfort of your car if “roughing it” outside isn’t your cup of tea. Here are a few drives you won't want to miss: Black Hawk sits along the scenic Peak to Peak Highway, which runs through such popular towns like Nederland and Estes Park. It is Colorado’s oldest scenic byway. The Mount Evans Highway is 28 miles of the highest automobile road in the nation and doubles as a national forest scenic byway. Guanella Pass offers great views of a variety of Colorado ecosystems. Lariat Loop is a 40 mile drive through the foothills near Denver.
