    Cheers to Lucktoberfest!

As summer comes to an end, we bid farewell to the parties at the beach and warm weather… but we say hello to all things fall! All of us here at Lady Luck Casino® Black Hawk are especially excited about one event: Oktoberfest! In fact, we’re so excited that we’ve even coined our own promotion in honor of this lovely tradition, appropriately named Lucktoberfest!

    The History

To put it simply, Oktoberfest brings millions of people from around the world together in Munich, Germany to eat and drink massive amounts of food and beer. It’s steeped in tradition and goes back more than 200 years! The time-honored tradition has become so popular that multiple festivals have popped up all over the world, including Colorado. If you can’t travel internationally, Colorado is a good a place as any!

Get to Know the German Tradition

A Royal Celebration: This unique festival was created to celebrate the marriage of Crown King Ludwig and Queen Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen in October of 1810. We told you this event goes way back! We don’t think the royal duo ever imagined the festival would reach the proportions of today!

Only A Few Breweries: Despite the many people who love and celebrate this tradition, there are only six breweries allowed to participate in this festival each year … Hofbräuhaus München, Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu, Paulaner Bräu, Löwenbräu, Hacker-Pschorr Bräu and Augustiner Bräu. Each brewery has its own tent set up where people can enjoy the different brews. Lucky us!

The Beer is Strong: Oktoberfest beer is notoriously stronger than regular German lager. Alcohol content is around 6 percent. Some people have even passed out from exhaustion because of being dehydrated, so make sure you drink responsibly! After all, you don’t want to miss out on all the festival fun!

A Music Ban: You may think you’ll be able to hear the latest German party jams while you’re at the festival, but there’s actually a ban on music above 85 decibels until 6 p.m. Don’t worry. There are plenty of activities for you to enjoy until then. You might not even notice the music is gone. But once 6 p.m. hits, prepare for the real party!
